THE EQUITY IN EQUITY
requires insightful leadershipMuse Health™ and our partners acknowledge the stark disparity in life expectancy among different demographic groups, particularly evident in the significant gap faced by the Black population compared to others in the country. Research conducted at BEM reveals that approximately 3.3 million more Black Americans would be alive if life expectancy were equitable across all demographics. This disparity stems from various contributing factors.
Health equity encompasses diverse definitions, but at its core, it embodies the principle of ensuring that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to achieve optimal health. This principle applies universally, transcending geographical boundaries and demographic categories. Whether in rural or urban settings, or on a global scale, the issue of poor health equity persists.
Approaching this challenge through a business lens, with a focus on the financial sustainability of solutions, holds immense potential to effect positive change in healthcare. By prioritizing health equity as a foundational element, we can significantly enhance healthcare outcomes and accessibility.
One key insight driving our approach is the understanding that zip code often carries more weight than genetic code. Access to healthcare services is heavily influenced by geographical location, with individuals seeking care within their local communities. Therefore, addressing disparities in healthcare access requires a concerted effort to bring healthcare services to underserved areas, ensuring that all communities have equitable access to quality care.
WE UNDERSTAND YOUR CHALLENGES
Muse Health™ focus is optimizing our client's health strategiesThe Muse Health’s partnership with our clients is designed to speak directly to the underrepresented Medicare Advantage population. From the conceptualization to the execution of our combined efforts, the patient/beneficiary will know that their experience is organically and authentically designed with their needs in mind. We are also uniquely positioned to demonstrate that the partnership between Muse Health™ and our clients will deliver lower costs and greater savings. Due in part to greater flexibility on cost and coverage policies, and required maximum out-of-pocket limits, Medicare Advantage has a 35% lower rate of cost burden as compared to traditional Medicare. Further, compared to their counterparts enrolled in traditional Medicare, Black Medicare Advantage beneficiaries report an average of $1,270 in cost savings.
Medicare beneficiaries have a significantly lower average household income, and are 2x as likely to report cost as a barrier to accessing healthcare.
The healthcare cost savings that Medicare Advantage plans can deliver beneficiaries are likely to be particularly meaningful to this population, and may factor into older Black adults’ decision to choose Medicare Advantage plans over traditional FFS Medicare.
