If we have special diets for patients who have had a health event or are on the cusp of being diagnosed, why wouldn’t we do the same for patients at a higher risk for disease BEFORE intervention is needed?
Food fuels us to get through our day, and can have a significant impact on our long-term health. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that of the yearly $4.1 trillion in health expenses, 90% can be attributed to chronic health conditions. 👀
Treating the whole person—like teaching patients how food can be medicine—can be valuable in preventing chronic conditions or lessening their severity.
