A pivotal figure in the LGBTQ+ rights movement, Johnson’s pivotal role in the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and co-founding of Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) with Sylvia Rivera underscore her unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

Despite facing personal challenges, including mental health battles and HIV/AIDS, Johnson remained a steadfast voice against discrimination, leaving an enduring legacy that transcends generations.
