Those suffering from disabilities are most likely to need frequent healthcare, but they suffer from substantial levels of health inequity. A study gives an eye-opening look into the attitudes and practices of providers when caring for disabled patients:
🚫 “Many physicians expressed explicit bias toward people with disabilities.”
🩺 Only 41% are “very confident” they provide the same care quality to disabled and non-disabled patients.
❌ Almost 70% reported being at risk of receiving an ADA lawsuit.
It’s unacceptable for providers to have a bias towards a population. Patients of all abilities should be able to receive the same quality of care. Proper education and training need to be a part of the medical curriculum to ensure providers know how to care for disabled patients and do so without bias.
